Design Specialists
A design team comprises a set of specialists to advise you in relation to the Design and Construction process of a building project. A design team normally consists of an Architect, Structural Engineer, Quantity Surveyor and Services Engineer. Depending on the requirements of the project additional consultants are required.
You might also require the services of other professionals during the course of the project. These may include a BER assessor and Structural and Civil Engineer, to include SUDs design to comply with the Local Authority planning conditions and Site Percolation Test.
MaZo Architecture works do NOT include Interior Design scheme, eg: design of joinery, kitchens, detailed bathroom design (for example tiling layouts), built-in furniture detail, etc. We are happy to offer these services at an additional cost.
01. - QUANTITY SURVEYOR
It is critical to engage a Quantity Surveyor early on to provide a Project Cost Plan to predict the costs and warn us if the project costs are going astray prior to seeking planning permission to ensure that the design matches the budget.
02. - LAND SURVEYOR
The role of the Land Surveyor is to carry out detailed topographic survey of the site, levels, existing building, adjoining building and the party walls in digital format. In addition to the information provided, the surveyor establish the procedures and methodology required by the Local Authority.
03. - DRAINAGE & SUDS SPECIALIST
The role of the Drainage & Suds Specialist is to ensure the proposed drainage layout on-site and the proposed drainage connections to the public sewer and surface water drainage complies have been designed in compliance with Local Authority Development Plan and Code of Practice for Drainage Works. They will carry out detailed site investigations to establish the existing ground conditions and site suitability for the proposed works. In addition the engineer will monitor the works during the construction process.
04. - STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
The role of the structural engineer is to ensure the structural stability of our design proposal. They will design any new structural elements required in terms of detail, specification and construction. In addition the engineer will monitor the works during the construction process.
05. - SERVICES ENGINEER
The role of a Services Engineer involves the specification of electrical, lighting, heating, environmental and data systems. Should environmental systems, zero rated or low energy construction be required these services should be included in the design team to increase the energy efficiency and reduce the running cost of the project.
06. - MAIN CONTRACTOR
The selection of the main contractor is of critical importance to the success of a project. The Main Contractor has the responsibility to construct the project in accordance with the instructions of the Design Team and to ensure that the works are built in accordance with current Irish Building Regulations, Local Authorities and Building Control and all other relevant Statutory requirements.
The quality and accuracy of the final build is contingent on the quality, efficiency and diligent work of the Main Contactor and his subcontractors. It can often be ‘penny wise and pound foolish’ to engage main contractors who appear to be very competitive on price but fail to deliver the project on time and on budget.
Only contractors who have been recommended to us and have successfully carried out similar projects will be included on any list of contractors proposed for the project. It is also prudent to visit projects recently completed by all selected contractors. The final selection of the Main Contractor or Builder is by a formal tender process drawn from the list of selected contractors.
